Classic vs. Trendy Handbags

So I’ve been blabbing about intentional luxury and purchasing items that not only speak to you, but will last you a lifetime (and that doesn’t mean the quality lasting, I mean, yes it does, but it also means you’re actually using the damn thing). Nothing is worse than having a handbag you spent tons of money on and it just sits in its dust bag rotting away at life. This brings me to classic/timeless handbags vs trendy ones. So let’s break it down…shall we.

The classic handbag, she is timeless, rarely goes on sale and gets a bit of facelift every few years. She is always worth the splurge. Classic bags are the foundation of a curated, intentional wardrobe. They’re the pieces you can reach for every single year no matter what’s trending. I created an example pic showing you the Chanel quilted flap shoulder bag, the YSL tote, Prada’s tumulte bag and the Chloe spin tote. These silhouettes don’t age. They pair with everything, move seamlessly from casual to dressy, and hold their value incredibly well. If you’re building your bag collection intentionally, classics are where you start.

Let’s talk about our trendy bags. These bags are where you get to play, but PLEASE don’t drop a ton of cash on them (I mean, some people do, but these bags typically GO ON SALE, and everyone and I mean EVERYONE loves saving money). The shapes, textures, and details feel more experimental and are perfect for adding personality or drama to your wardrobe. These bags make a look instantly now. They’re perfect when you want your outfit to feel creative or fun, but they will run their course and end up sitting in their dustbag until they are back on trend (30 years later?).

I LOVE both, but I always try to splurge on a classic bag that I know I will use and possibly pass down to someone who will love the bag as much I did using it. Always go classic when you’re investing in long-term pieces, you want to maximize versatility and if you prefer a minimal look. Go trendy when you want a statement piece, when you’re trying to elevate a simple look or if you love experimenting with fashion. At the end of the day, your best wardrobe will always be a mix: timeless foundations with space to sprinkle in personality and trend-driven flair when the vibe calls for it.
