Fish Is… In.
Somewhere between the rise of caviar and the “tinned fish girl” renaissance, seafood went from dinner to lifestyle, and I’m here for it, not because I actually enjoy a nice fillet red snapper, but because it’s giving chic Mediterranean vibes, and who can say no to that?
Let’s start with the obvious: caviar is having a moment. Not the stuffy, old-money vibe, it’s turning into this new wave of caviar girlies who are young, playful, and dripping in indulgence. It’s luxury, but kind of a form of self-care. It’s that “I treat myself just because” attitude. A little mother-of-pearl spoon. A little blini moment. A whole aesthetic.
And then there’s tinned fish, which has somehow become the “it girl” of the food world. I blame Fishwife who has literally made canned fish cool and sexy? These tiny tins are now styled like accessories on marble counters, laid out beautifully on boards, photographed like mini designer pieces. You’ve seen charcuterie boards… now we have caviar boards and tinned fish boards popping up on every influencer’s feed. It’s chic, it’s coastal, it’s a little chaotic, but it works and it’s yummy.
Like all things delicious and viral, the trend has officially “swum” its way into fashion (that was a good one). Designers clocked the wave, because suddenly aquatic motifs are everywhere…playful, shiny, unexpected. My personal fav? The Bottega Veneta’s Sardine Bag. That sculptural gold handle shaped like a fish? It’s camp, it’s elevated, it’s giving “my summers are in Capri.”
Another bag I’ve been eyeing, the VIN brass fish bag, which is basically wearable art. It’s heavy, literal, and absolutely luxurious way. It’s Mediterranean chic meets “I might own a boat.” The best way to rock this bag? Doubling it with another or layering it. Literally. You would mix this bag which is smaller and more of staple piece with a larger tote, shopper or casual bag (for bigger items or practicality).
Other bags to notes, the Anthropologie fisn clutch— quirky, adorable, and the perfect way to dip into the trend without committing to a high price tag, and of course, the Staud fish bag which gives off coastal-cool energy that makes you want to book a vacation to Martha’s Vineyard immediately.
This trend works because it blends luxury with humor, nostalgia, and escapism. It’s Mediterranean-girl energy without even stepping foot in Europe. Although this trend may not be a year round look, it is a seasonal look and that makes it a staple piece for Summer and Spring vacations.
Shop the look for fun fishy looks, that are still very chic.
